The Law Centre's Employment unit has specialised for twenty years in cases of discrimination at work. It has a special expertise in cases of race discrimination and disability discrimination. The unit also conducts unfair dismissal cases and advises on in-work problems among its traditional client group of low paid, non-unionised retail, hotel and catering workers, with a view to making inroads into maximising employment rights.

The Employment unit provides second tier advice and assistance and takes referrals as appropriate from CABx and other advice agencies on all aspects of employment law but having regard for the stated priorities of work.

Discrimination
The Law Centre's Employment unit prioritises discrimination and harassment cases, especially those related to race, disability, sexual orientation and sexual harassment. The unit also advises and runs cases concerning pregnancy dismissals.

Thanks to funding from the former Commission for Racial Equality and from the Equality & Human Rights Commission, we are able to take on cases of race discrimination in employment for people living or working anywhere in London for the year ending June 2008. This is subject to capacity.

New Laws
Employment law is changing rapidly with many new rights for workers. The Law Centre offers advice on all aspects of employment law as affect low paid workers.
