Our services include:

  • Support to less specialised agencies, training and advocacy
  • Work with the Chinese community of London
  • Wo rk with local Colleges and charities for the homeless within our catchment area
  • Outreach work with the Bengali community at the Hopscotch Asian Women's Centre

Our immigration advisers are authorised to give advice by the OISC (the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner) and they are accredited under the Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme to deal with LSC funded immigration cases.

The unit monitors the implementation of constantly changing legislation and tries to prevent further erosion and restrictions which, it appears, will occur to the rights of asylum seekers and those subject to immigration control. Restrictions on the rights of asylum seekers to claim support will increase the number of homeless people many of whom will end up in Central London.

The unit prioritises work with the Chinese and Bengali communities who make up a large number of the unit's client base. The unit has a long established reputation particularly among the Chinese community and indeed the unit is unique in its ability to work effectively with the Chinese community, a group which, for a variety of reasons, is often reluctant to use advice agencies.
